An Bíobla Naofa 1981

Dúirt Gideón lena Iosraelaigh: “Ní bheidh mise i gceannas oraibh, ná ní bheidh mo mhac i gceannas oraibh; beidh an Tiarna i gceannas oraibh.”

Breithiúna 8:23

Ní rud é, mar sin, atá ag brath ar thoil an duine ná ar a chuid iarrachtaí ach ar thrócaire Dé.

Rómhánaigh 9:16

Breithiúna 8 (An Bíobla Naofa 1981)

20 Ansin d’ordaigh sé do Ieitir an mac ba shine aige: “Éirigh agus cuir chun báis iad!” Ach níor tharraing an mac a chlaíomh; ní raibh sé de mhisneach aige; ní raibh ann ach ógánach.
21 Ansin dúirt Zeaba agus Zalmuná: “Éirigh féin agus maraigh sinn; óir tá neart fir de réir mar atá an fear sin.” Ansin d’éirigh Gideón féin agus mharaigh Zeaba agus Zalmuná, agus ghearr anuas na stuanna a bhí ar mhuiníl a gcamall.
22 Dúirt muintir Iosrael le Gideón ansin: “Bí i gceannas orainn – thú féin agus do chlann mhac, agus mac do mhic chomh maith, mar d’fhuascail tú sinn as láimh Mhidián.”
23 Dúirt Gideón leo: “Ní bheidh mise i gceannas oraibh, ná ní bheidh mo mhac i gceannas oraibh; beidh an Tiarna i gceannas oraibh.”
24 Dúirt Gideón leo: “Tá achainí agam oraibh; tugadh gach duine agaibh na fáinní as a chreach dom” – bhí fáinní óir á gcaitheamh ag an dream a cloíodh mar ba Ísméiligh iad.
25 D’fhreagair siad: “Tabharfaimid agus fáilte.” Leath sé brat ansin agus chaith gach duine díobh na fáinní as a chreach ar an mbrat.
26 Ba é meáchan na bhfainní óir a d’éiligh sé ná míle seacht gcéad seicil óir, seachas na toirc, agus na siogairlíní agus na héidí corcra a chaitheadh ríthe Mhidián, agus na stuanna a bhíodh timpeall ar mhuiníl a gcuid camall.

Rómhánaigh 9 (An Bíobla Naofa 1981)

13 de réir mar atá scríofa: “Thugas grá do Iacób, agus fuath d’Éasau.”
14 Cad a déarfaimid mar sin? Go bhfuil éagóir ag baint le Dia, an ea?
15 Ní hea ar chor ar bith, mar féach cad a dúirt sé le Maois: “Déanfaidh mé trócaire ar mo rogha duine agus déanfaidh mé trua don duine is rogha liom chomh maith.”
16 Ní rud é, mar sin, atá ag brath ar thoil an duine ná ar a chuid iarrachtaí ach ar thrócaire Dé.
17 Arís sa scrioptúr deir sé le Forann: “Is chuige seo go díreach a d’ardaigh mé thú chun feidhm a bhaint asat le mo chumhacht a thaispeáint agus m’ainm a fhógairt ar fud an domhain go léir.”
18 Dá réir sin déanann sé trócaire ar an duine is rogha leis agus cruann sé an croí ina rogha duine chomh maith.
19 Déarfaidh tú liom, ní foláir: “Cad é an gearán atá aige ar dhaoine, más ea, mar cé a fhéadfaidh cur in aghaidh a thola?”

English Standard Version

Gideon said to the men of Israel, I will not rule over you, and my son will not rule over you; the Lord will rule over you.

Judges 8:23

It depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.

Romans 9:16

Breithiúna 8 (English Standard Version)

20 So he said to Jether his firstborn, “Rise and kill them!” But the young man did not draw his sword, for he was afraid, because he was still a young man.
21 Then Zebah and Zalmunna said, “Rise yourself and fall upon us, for as the man is, so is his strength.” And Gideon arose and killed Zebah and Zalmunna, and he took the crescent ornaments that were on the necks of their camels.
22 Then the men of Israel said to Gideon, “Rule over us, you and your son and your grandson also, for you have saved us from the hand of Midian.”
23 Gideon said to them, “I will not rule over you, and my son will not rule over you; the Lord will rule over you.”
24 And Gideon said to them, “Let me make a request of you: every one of you give me the earrings from his spoil.” (For they had golden earrings, because they were Ishmaelites.)
25 And they answered, “We will willingly give them.” And they spread a cloak, and every man threw in it the earrings of his spoil.
26 And the weight of the golden earrings that he requested was 1,700 shekels of gold, besides the crescent ornaments and the pendants and the purple garments worn by the kings of Midian, and besides the collars that were around the necks of their camels.

Rómhánaigh 9 (English Standard Version)

13 As it is written, “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”
14 What shall we say then? Is there injustice on God's part? By no means!
15 For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”
16 So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.
17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I might show my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”
18 So then he has mercy on whomever he wills, and he hardens whomever he wills.
19 You will say to me then, “Why does he still find fault? For who can resist his will?”
